Feeling safe in your home and on our streets is the most basic and my outright priority. That’s why I set up a major ‘Bring Back Our Bobbies’ campaign across Dagenham & Rainham to secure a stronger police presence and better accessibility to local policing.
Following this campaign, a nine officer police team for Dagenham Heathway was established producing real results. In the first week there were 5 arrests for murder, burglary, sexual offence and carrying blades.
The campaign had success, but it needs to go further. Labour is committed to increase patrols with 13,000 more neighbourhood police and PCSOs. This means more bobbies on your streets. We will make shoplifting under £200 a crime. We will make a new offence for assault against retail workers. A crime is a crime.
This will be the start of making our streets safe again.
We will also introduce increased local youth provisions and improvements in mental health services. We will be tough on crime and tough on its causes.
As MP for Dagenham & Rainham I will be fighting to secure a more responsive and stronger police presence, to fulfil the commitment to ensure the safety and peace of mind of local people.
The only way we can start to make progress on crime in Dagenham & Rainham, is through a change of priorities and a change of Government on 4th July.
