Margaret Mullane MP has taken an active part in setting up the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for tradespeople. Margaret was elected as the vice chair of the APPG at the group’s inaugural meeting. This recognition followed on from Margaret’s work in Parliament in promoting the measures that are being put into law to tackle tool theft from tradespeople within the Crime and Policing Bill.
The group comprising MPs and Lords from all parties across Parliament is focused on championing tradespeople who build, maintain and power the nation’s homes, businesses and infrastructure. At the APPG meeting on Monday 15 June a work schedule was agreed that will include:
· Skills gap and the need to boost apprenticeships and vocational training courses at local colleges
· Industry standards and tackling the threats of silicosis and asbestos in the workplace
· The impact of AI on small businesses and tradespeople
· Combatting tool theft.
The work of the APPG is being supported by Checkatrade and Hanbury Strategy.
Margaret said “I am so pleased to be participating in the work of the APPG for tradespeople. Tradespeople are the backbone and heartbeat of the economy and life of Dagenham and Rainham.
As important as focussing on the nation’s economic growth and concentrating on shifts of Gross Domestic Product are, we must never forget that the crucial point is how this translates to improving the lives of local people and businesses.
I want to ensure that everything is done to support local tradespeople thrive, thriving local businesses contribute to a stronger Dagenham and Rainham.”
