Emergency Medicine Day 2026

Margaret Mullane MP is in full support of Emergency Medicine Day today, recognising the life-saving work of emergency medicine professionals working in A&Es across the UK, including all those do in our local department at Queen’s Hospital.

Margaret Mullane MP commented “They do an incredible job despite the significant pressures facing the NHS. However, far too many NHS staff face violence, aggression and abuse simply for doing their job. Nobody should go to work in fear, and every healthcare worker deserves safety, dignity and respect. This Emergency Medicine Day, we thank you for your dedication and resilience and renew our commitment to ending violence and aggression in all its forms.”

In 2025 1 in 7 NHS staff were physically attacked by patients or a member of the public with 1 in 10 facing discrimination. Margaret commented these statistics are worrying as they take place against a background of NHS emergency staff doing their life saving work.

The year’s theme is “Safe Space for Emergency Medicine Teams.” This highlights the need to ensure emergency medicine staff can work in safe, supported environments free from violence, aggression, and abuse.
