TFL has proposed a re-routing of the 287 and 687 bus routes away from the A13/Ripple Road towards Maplestead and Goresbrook Road in hopes of providing greater accessibility to residents as well as plenty of other benefits.
The 287 route, from Barking Station to Rainham, Abbey Wood Lane, and the 687 route, a school service from Barking Station to Dagenham Park School, currently face various concerns due to their route running along the A13. This means a risk of isolation of Scrattons Farm residents, health and mobility concerns on vulnerable groups, and increased traffic, congestion, and pollution in the Goresbrook Road area.
After a successful public consultation with over 400 responses, the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham has made plans alongside TFL in order to bring these changes forward. Starting in early 2026, the required highway works will be undertaken and the planned rerouting will be announced closer to the time, with an immediate estimation being spring/summer 2026.
